Nottingham, June 27:
Injured England paceman Darren Gough should be available for the
fourth one-day triangular series match against Sri Lanka at
Headingley on July 2.
The England and Wales
Cricket Board made the announcement on Thursday as the opening
day-night clash between the two teams got under way at
Nottingham. India are the third team playing in the 10-match
series which has its final at Lord's on July 13.
"Darren will play for
Yorkshire's second team tomorrow (Friday) then join the England
squad on Saturday," an ECB spokesman said.
"Subject to him not
suffering any reaction he will be available for selection for
the match at Headingley."
The Yorkshire bowler's
return was put back when he suffered a reaction during the
warm-up for a county second team game on Monday.
But he recovered enough
to bowl in the nets on Wednesday and now has England's second
game of the series as his comeback target.
A specialist's report
on Thursday clearly gave England the news they wanted to hear,
especially with Gough's pace partner Andrew Caddick ruled out
with an injured left side.
England will hope to
have both back in harness for the four-test series with India
starting at Lord's on July 25.
Gough, 31, tore a
cartilage in his right knee during the final one-day
international against New Zealand in March, has undergone two
operations in the last three months and missed the three-test
series against Sri Lanka in May and June, which England won 2-0.
England also have
in-form batsman Mark Butcher recovering from knee surgery. He
was expected to be fit for the test series.
