London, August 04:
Opener
Robert Key will make his Test debut against India at Trent
Bridge next week after he was named Sunday in a 13-man squad for
the second cricket Test.
Also named in the squad
was rookie fast bowler Steve Harmison while fast bowler Alex Tudor
returns from injury.
Key, 23, will open the
batting with Michael Vaughan while Mark Butcher drop down to No.3
as England tries to fill the void created by the absence of
batsman Graham Thorpe.
Thorpe took an open-ended
sabbatical due to personal reason after the first Test at Lord's.
The 23-year-old Harmison
replaces an injured Simon Jones, who pulled a side muscle during
his debut in the series opener which England won by 170 runs.
Tudor and Harmison,
another tearaway fast bowler, will battle for one bowling place
while the selectors will decide to whether to continue with
leftarm spinner Ashley Giles or recall allrounder Dominic Cork.
"With Simon Jones
injured, we view Stephen Harmison as a like for like replacement,
who gives us the option of express pace if required," chairman of
selectors David Graveney said.
"Robert Key has been in
outstanding form for Kent and his career has really kicked on this
season after he attended the national academy in Australia last
winter. He will open the batting with Michael Vaughan with Mark
Butcher coming in at number three."
England squad: Nasser
Hussain (captain), Michael Vaughan, Robert Key, Mark Butcher, John
Crawley, Alec Stewart (wicketkeeper), Andrew Flintoff, Craig
White, Alex Tudor, Ashley Giles, Steve Harmison, Dominic Cork and
Matthew Hoggard.
