| We
are not thinking of the series outcome any more: Hooper
Kolkata,
October 28: Despite having lost the series against India
with comprehensive defeats in the first two Tests, West Indies skipper
Carl Hooper on Sunday said that his team was still "upbeat"
and would play for a win in the final Test here to salvage some
pride.
"The mood
of our players is still upbeat. We will play for a win at the Eden
Gardens," Hooper told newspersons on his arrival at the team
hotel for the third Test beginning here from October 30.
He described
the performance of the side in the first two Tests as "disappointing",
but said that his players were not letting the series outcome affect
them.
"It's
been a disappointing tour so far. But we are not thinking of the
series outcome any more. We are looking forward to the Eden Test,"
the West Indies captain said.
Asked whether
the Eden Gardens pitch, which by all indications looked to be a
slow turner, would pose a problem for the tourists, Hooper said
"I can't comment on this before checking the track tomorrow."
Earlier, the
West Indies team arrived at the NSC Bose International airport here
by a Sahara Airlines flight from Pune at 9.45 PM.
A large posse
of mediapersons, both from the electronic and the print, had gathered
at the airport to get some comments from the West Indies skipper
and the chairman of selectors Viv Richards, who has been touring
with the side.
But their efforts
proved futile as dismayed by the jostling and pandemonium, Richards
refused to say anything. Hooper also followed suit.
At the hotel,
the Antiguan, with his royal strides, led the team in, but chose
to let the Guyanese Hooper do the talking.
The visiting
skipper, who made his Test debut against India in Mumbai in 1987-88,
said he considers Eden Gardens as any other ground.
"I'm having
no special feelings about Eden," he said bluntly to a query.
