Sehwag desperate to join squad before one-dayers
New Delhi, April 22:
Desperately missing the action in the Caribbean, dashing batsman
Virender Sehwag is on the road to complete recovery and raring to join
his team-mates there before the start of the one-day series against
West Indies.
Sehwag, who
was ruled out of the Test squad for the West Indies tour due to a
shoulder injury sustained during the second Test against Zimbabwe in
March here, is undergoing intensive physiotherapy to be fit in time
for the one-dayers.
"I am
recovering fast and I am satisfied with my progress," Sehwag said here
on Monday.
"However, I
have not started practice as yet and I think my treatment will
continue for some time," Sehwag said adding he could not set an exact
timeframe for complete recovery.
"But I am very
hopeful to be fit in time for the one-day series against West Indies
starting in Jamaica on May 25," the flamboyant batsman said
Sehwag's
doctor Yash Gulati was also hopeful that the Delhi batsman would be
fit before the team for the one-dayers was announced.
"He is doing
quite fine. He is responding well to the treatment.... I am quite
confident he would be fully fit before the one-day squad is
announced," the doctor said.
Sehwag,
compared often to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar for his aggressive
strokeplay, has earned himself the distinction of a specialist one-day
batsman after his explosive knocks in India's recent outings.
