| I
don't know how we won: Ganguly
Colombo, September 25:
Snatching a stunning 10-run victory from the jaws of defeat, a dazed
Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said he still could not believe that
his team had beaten South Africa in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions
Trophy on Wednesday.
"I
don't know how we won," Ganguly said after South Africa fell
short of the 261-run target by ten runs in a thrilling encounter.
"It
was fantastic."
Asked
whether he thought all was lost when South Africa were cruising
towards the target losing just one wicket, Ganguly said, "No
we always thought it was a big total. But (Herschelle) Gibbs and
(Jacques) Kallis played well."
"Then
Harbhajan's two wickets in one over turned the match. And Sehwag.
He can't do any thing wrong these days," Ganguly said.
He
also praised the bowling of Zaheer Khan and the two superb catches
taken by Yuvraj Singh.
"Yuvraj's
catches were the best two I've seen."
Virender
Sehwag, who won his second consecutive man-of-the-match award, after
his 77-ball hundred which helped India humble England on Sunday,
called his spell magical.
"I'm
very happy. We had almost lost the match. But it was a magical spell,"
he said after returning figures of 5-0-25-3 to go with his 59 runs.
"I've
been bowling for Delhi and also I bowled in my first one-day international
against Australia," he said adding that now he was looking
forward to Sunday's final against either World Champions Australia
or hosts Sri Lanka.
South
African captain Shaun Pollock was dejected at his not being able
to finish the task. "We had eight wickets in hand. We needed
to hammer it home. But in the end we were just not good enough.
It was unfortunate," he said about the required 100 runs off
20 overs at one stage.
"We
will sit together and make sure that we don't commit such a mistake
again."
Pollock also praised India's batting. "The first 30 overs they
were awesome. All credit to India."
On
Gibbs retiring hurt, the skipper said Gibbs suffered cramps on both
his hands. "We tried to retrieve him but it didn't work.
