Gayle inspires Windies to victory over Kenya

Nairobi, Aug 15: West Indies opener Chris Gayle smashed a glorious century to lead his team to a 106 run win over an outclassed Kenya in the first of three one-day internationals here on Wednesday.

Gayle's 152 included 17 fours and three sixes, while fellow opener Darren Ganga made 68 as the two men put on 174 for the opening wicket.

Kenya, chasing a formidable 312 for victory, were all out for 205, putting paid to the selectors' decision to shuffle the batting order following the dropping of long-serving opening batsman and wicketkeeper Kennedy Otieno.

His younger brother David Obuya and Ravindu Shah failed to take their chances at the start of their innings as Colin Stuart tore apart the Kenyan order taking five for 44.

Top batsman Steve Tikolo, who had been impressive in the four-day series, failed to make an impact in this match, trapped leg before by Corey Collymore for nought.

Thomas Odoyo top scored for the Kenyans with 40 off 40 balls.

The second match of the one-day series will be played on Saturday.
