West
Indies 118 for no loss against Kenya
MOMBASA,
Kenya: West Indies opening batsmen Chris Gayle and Darren
Ganga continued their outstanding performance on the African tour
with an unbroken 118 run partnership on the second day of a
four-day game against Kenya.
At
the close of play Friday, Gayle was not out on 61 and Ganga on 52.
There were five extras. From the overnight score of 208 for 6,
Kenya's first innings closed after 48 overs of play for 290 runs
in 138 overs. The Kenyan batsmen continued to show better
discipline and patience at the crease than in the first game in
Nairobi.
Martin
Suji followed up on his good start Thursday, holding the lower
order steady, remaining not out on 47 runs. The other overnight
batsman, Thomas Odoyo, was the first to go, caught by Neil
McGarrell off Colin Stuart.
Tony
Suji followed shortly afterward, adjudged leg before wicket to leg
spinner Dave Mohammed. Number 11 batsman Brijal Patel showed up
some of his earlier colleagues and helped Suji add 45 before the
last wicket.
Ganga
and Gayle held steady at the crease through the afternoon
sessions. The opening pair batted almost effortlessly, both
playing a wide array of strokes around the wicket. Chris Gayle was
the first of the two to reach his half century, followed shortly
after by Darren Ganga.
The
Kenyan bowlers toiled hard, but without success, restricting the
usually aggressive openers to less than three runs per over. The
four day game enters its third day Saturday in Kenya's first
four-day game against an international test match team.
