Chanderpaul inspires West Indies
Nairobi, Aug 18: Shivnarine
Chanderpaul hit an unbeaten 87 to steer the West Indies to a
six-wicket victory in the second one-day international match
against Kenya on Thursday.
Chanderpaul's disciplined
innings helped West Indies wrap up the match in the 46th over
after the Kenyan pace attack had accounted for the tourists' top
order.
The victory also gave West
Indies an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing Kenya's modest
score of 192, the Windies struggled to come to terms with a
renewed Kenyan bowling spearheaded by Martin Suji, who took two
quick wickets in only one over.
Suji first bowled Chris
Gayle for 10 and the opener was not able to make a repeat
performance of his first one-day match innings on Wednesday when
he hit a career best of 152.
The Kenyan paceman then
trapped Wavell Hinds for a duck as the West Indies reached 17 for
three in the seventh over.
Chanderpaul, who at one
time looked to be suffering a knee injury, batted with
determination and with admirable support from Marlon Samuels, the
pair made 91 in their fourth wicket partnership.
Reon King was the pick of
the West Indies bowlers, capturing four wickets in a batting
collapse that has virtually ended Kenya's hopes of making an
impact in the series.
The last partnership of 66
between tailenders Peter Ochieng and Jimmy Kamande gave the Kenyan
score some respectability and was the only highlight in a poor
batting performance.
