We'll have to play perfect game to win : Thorpe

London, May 18: Graham Thorpe said England would have to play "the perfect game" to win the first test against Pakistan after the match at Lord's was reduced to four days.

Thorpe, who made 80 out of England's 254 for four on Friday after the first day was washed out by rain, said: "Hopefully we can get through the 400-mark and then bowl out Pakistan in a day.

"We'll have to play the perfect game."

Thorpe put on 132 for the fourth wicket with captain Nasser Hussain before he was dismissed near the close by his former Surrey county team mate Waqar Younis, caught at fine leg.

He added: "At 114 for three we needed a partnership and Nasser and I managed to come up trumps.

"I was disappointed to get out, mainly because it was to Waqar -- I don't like giving my old mate a wicket, especially after he laid that trap. But you have to be philosophical -- you are going to make a mistake some times."

Pakistan coach Richard Pybus, however, was full of praise for Thorpe.

"I was really impressed," he said. "Nasser was struggling and Graham managed to absorb that pressure."

Hussain, stuck on one for an hour, finally found some form to close on 53 not out.
