Physician not yet sure of Tendulkar's condition till next bone
scan
New
Delhi, August 8:
Indian cricket superstar Sachin Tendulkar is doubtful for the
upcoming three-Test series against Sri Lanka. "Tendulkar's
right toe is yet to heal," the Press Trust of India quoted
unnamed cricket board sources as saying in Bombay on Wednesday.
The picture will, however, be clear only on Friday, when Tendulkar
undergoes a bone scan. "The fracture is healing very slowly
and it is unlikely that he will take part in the Test
series," a board source revealed.
The first Test begins at Galle on August 14. "However, we
will get a clear picture only after the bone scan is done and if
he is ruled out of the series then he might attend the board
working committee meeting at Baroda on August 11," the source
added.
Tendulkar suffered a hairline fracture during his team's final
league game against the West Indies in Zimbabwe last month. The
injury ruled him out of the recent triangular one-day series in
Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, physician Anant Joshi, who is treating Tendulkar, said
it was difficult to say anything now and he would comment only
after the second bone scan.
Tendulkar's absence will be a further setback for the touring
Indians, already without their latest batting sensation Venkatsai
Laxman (right knee) who has been advised prompt surgery.
Laxman returned home after India's defeat against Sri Lanka in the
tri-series final in Colombo last Sunday. Left-arm fast bowler
Ashish Nehra is also unavailable for the Test series due to a
groin injury. India's ace leg-spinner Anil Kumble has already been
out of action since last October because of a shoulder injury. |
