White out of India one day tour

London, January 3: Yorkshire all-rounder Craig White will miss England's forthcoming one-day series in India in order to have keyhole surgery on his left knee.

White will be out of action for three to four weeks but he is expected to be fit for the New Zealand leg of this winter's tour and England will not be calling up a replacement player.

White, who underwent a scan over the Christmas break, aggravated the injury during the last day of the third Test against India in Bangalore.

The all-rounder, who scored his maiden Test century against India in Ahmedabad in December, underwent a successful operation on his right knee last autumn and was forced to drop out from the one-day squad which won 5-0 in Zimbabwe back in October.

New ball pairing Andrew Caddick and Darren Gough, who both opted out of England's recent Test tour of India, the former citing security fears, the latter saying he needed a rest, are both included with Graham Thorpe also in the party.

Surrey left-handed batsman Thorpe returned home prematurely from India following the first Test because of marriage difficulties

Left-arm spinner Ashley Giles and Yorkshire batsman Michael Vaughan complete the five changes to the 16-man squad that whitewashed Zimbabwe - the last time Nasser Hussain's side played one-day international cricket.

Sussex paceman James Kirtley, whose bowling action was reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) is omitted along with Essex batsman-off-spinner Paul Grayson, Yorkshire quick Ryan Sidebottom and Surrey duo Mark Ramprakash and James Ormond.

England are due to play six one-day internationals in India starting on January 19 followed by a five match series in New Zealand starting on February 13.
