LG
to sponsor India-England one-dayers
Kolkata,
January 16: LG
Electronics India has clinched the sponsorship deal for the forthcoming
India-England cricket one day international series, to be titled 'LG Cup
2002'.
Announcing
this, company vice president (marketing and sales) Pradeep Tognta said in
a release here on Wednesday that LG would also sponsor the winning trophy
'LG Cup' and the 'LG Man of the Match' awards of Rs 35,000 for each match.
The
company has set aside Rupees eight crore towards advertising and
promotional spends for the six-match LG Cup that would commence on January
19 at Kolkata, he said.
The
rest of the matches would be played at Cuttack (Jan 22), Chennai (Jan 25),
Kanpur (Jan 28), New Delhi (Jan 31) and Mumbai (Feb 3).
Asked
about the developments which led to replacement of Pepsi as the sponsors,
company sources said the deal was finalised last night in New Delhi, but
refused to furnish details about the last minute changes in sponsorship.
Tongata
said the company has had "very close association with Cricket since
1999. LG Cup Series 2002, is yet another step towards strengthening this
relationship."
LG
was the official supplier of consumer electronics, home appliances, PC
monitors and CD Roms for World Cup Cricket, 1999 played in England.
