Ganguly
takes fine in his stride
Cuttack,
January 21:
Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Monday found nothing wrong with the
match-referee's decision to fine his team for slow over rate in the
Kolkata one-dayer against England on Saturday while blaming dew for the
slackness.
"The
match-referee is only going by the rules. It is usual for team bowling
slow to be fined," Ganguly told reporters here after learning about
the fine.
"The
ball was getting wet due to dew and there was a lot of mud on the spikes
of the bowlers. It took a lot of time cleaning the mud which made it
difficult to stick to the over rate," he said. "The conditions
were tough for the bowlers."
India
bowled about five overs short and will be fined five per cent of their
match fees per over but match-referee Dennis Lindsay the dew factor would
be taken into account and they would be penalised for three to four overs
only.
"We
must get things right in tomorrow's match and improve our over rate,"
Ganguly said.
The
skipper said his team would have to improve on its performance in
tomorrow's match even though it had won the first game. "We have to
try and play better. Every game is important," he said.
Ganguly
was happy with the ground fielding of his team though catching left much
to be desired with V V S Laxman dropping two catches. "Laxman is
usually a safe fielder but he erred on Saturday. But our ground fielding
was very good."
Asked
about the composition of the team for tomorrow's match, he said, "I
don't know right now. The selectors are yet to come here".
Ganguly
refused to comment on England's complaint about poor umpiring in the
Kolkata one-dayer. "It is not for me to say anything on that. We
don't have to worry about such issues," he said.
