India by 4 wickets
India
Vs Australia, 5th ODI , Goa
Margao,
April 6: Michael Bevan
cracked an unbeaten 87 to steer Australia to a four-wicket
series-clinching win over India in the deciding fifth one-day
international on Friday.
Bevan hammered five fours and a six in his
perfectly paced 113-ball knock, hitting the
winning runs, cutting paceman Zaheer Khan through cover for four.
Vangipurappu
Laxman had earlier made 101, his maiden one-day century, as India scored
265 for six from their 50 overs. He shared in a 105-run second-wicket
stand with captain Saurav Ganguly, who made 74.
Australia
started their reply aggressively, openers Matthew Hayden (36) and
Gilchrist striking India's opening bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Srinath
picked up two quick wickets to reduce Australia to 74-2 and Sachin
Tendulkar chipped in with three for 35.
Tendulkar
bowled Gilchrist off an inside edge as the batsman went for a late
cut. He then picked up his 100th one-day wicket when Australia captain
Steve Waugh was caught at long-on for 17.
Darren
Lehmann and Andrew Symonds did not last long but Bevan struck a huge
six over mid-wicket off spinner Harbhajan Singh to put Australia
within 21 runs of victory in the 46th over.
Laxman's
maiden-century takes India to 265/6
India
Vs Australia, 5th ODI , Goa
Margao, April 6: V.V.S. Laxman scored his maiden
one-day century and the Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly displayed a
decent knock scoring 74 runs in 83 balls in the deciding one-day
cricket match against Australia here today after India won the toss.
The India
batsmen however failed to take full advantage of a solid foundation
and faltered during the slog overs to settle for 265 for six in their
allotted 50 overs - the highest score posted at this ground.
Laxman
and Rahul Dravid, who made a sedate 31, were out trying to go over the
top and Hemang Badani and Yuvraj Singh could not do much after being
restricted in their stroke play on a difficult batting track where the
ball was not coming on to the bat nicely.
India
could add only 48 runs in the last ten overs losing four
wickets.
Earlier, Nathan Bracken removed Sachin
Tendulkar (12) for the second match in a row. His (1-37 off 10 overs)
bowled just nine balls to the master batsman before he had him caught
behind by Adam Gilchrist when Tendulkar chased a rising ball which was
moving away from him.
Late in the innings, the Australians
slowed the scoring a little bit thanks to two wickets in two balls to
Ian Harvey (2-49).
Andrew
Symonds (1-42 off eight) also did a tight job with off-spinners to
counter the damage done to Warne (0-62 off eight) and Darren Lehmann
(0-37 off six).
