England
spinner Giles has injury worry
July
25 : Giles has a
problem with his Achilles tendon. "It's permanently inflamed
and sore to touch," Giles told The Daily Mail newspaper.
"I've had this injury for a long time and I can't say I'm 100
percent fit. I'm playing on with it, but there's not a moment when I
can forget it."
Giles played in England's first test defeat at Edgbaston, but not
during the second test loss at Lord's. But England need strength in
depth after batsman Graeme Thorpe was ruled out for a further three
weeks with a broken bone in his right hand and doubts surrounding
the fitness of skipper Nasser Hussain.
Giles returned home early from the tour of Sri Lanka because of
injury and missed England's test series against Pakistan and the
triangular one day series that followed.
Giles admitted he may need surgery.
"I've lost a lot of strength in my leg and it affects me a
lot," he said. "It's the kick-through leg in my bowling
action and I just don't seem to be pulling through all the time as I
should be."
Australia only needs to avoid defeat in Nottingham to retain the
Ashes, which England has not won since in 1986-87.
