Clown
prince Power interrupts Test
Leeds,
England, August 17:
Karl Power, the man who dressed up in Manchester United kit and
joined a team photograph, was at it again on the second day of the
fourth Ashes Test here at Headingley on Friday.
England captain Nasser Hussain had just made his way to the wicket
after the dismissal of Marcus Trescothick when another 'batsman'
clad in team kit and regulation helmet came out of the players'
pavilion and walked out onto the playing surface.
Initial thoughts were that Hussain or possibly his batting partner
Mark Butcher had sustained an injury that required a runner.
The Laws of Cricket require that anyone 'running' must wear all the
same clothing and equipment as the injured batsman.
But after only a few paces, Power turned, removed his helmet and
raised his arms to raucous applause from the Headingley crowd. He
then produced a mobile phone and seemingly pretended to have a
conversation.
Power, 33, an unemployed labourer, first came to prominence in April
when he brazenly walked onto the Olympic Stadium pitch in Munich and
again clad in the correct team strip joined a Manchester United team
photograph ahead of their European Champions League quarter-final
against Bayern Munich.
