Bradman was the legend of legends : Miandad

Dunedin, New Zealand, February 27: Pakistan batting maestro Javed Miandad described Sir Donald Bradman as the "legend of legends" and said Bradman's exploits on the cricket field will never be forgotten.

"He's a gentleman. I have met him so many times during my visits to Australia. The only thing I can say is he was a remarkable human being," said Miandad, when contacted during Pakistan's tour of New Zealand.

"Cricket is going to miss him - he was the legend of the legends. People have learned a lot from him."

"I am lost for words and it is very difficult what to say. I wish him peace in heaven. I am sure whatever he's done will never be forgotten."

Miandad said Bradman's record "speaks for itself and portrays what a remarkable cricketer he was."

"He used to get 300 runs or so in a day. He didn't do it once, but so many times. I can just picture him play from what people have said about him and can imagine what a great batsman he was.

"He never spoke about himself. He never ever talked about himself. He always used to praise other people."

Fast bowler Waqar Younis said he doubts Bradman's record will ever be eclipsed.

"It's a shame he is no more with us," said Waqar. "It's a great loss to cricket and a greater loss to Australian cricket. The person he has been and the cricket he's played, there will be no one better than him."

Opener and veteran batsman Saeed Anwar said two persons typified the best that cricket has to offer.

"One was Sir Don Bradman and the other Sir Gary Sobers," said Saeed. "I think these to are the father and mother of cricket. So the father has died.
