Don’s memorial service to be held on 25th March

Adelaide, February 28: A public memorial service for cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman, who died on Sunday, will be held on March 25, Bradman's family said on Wednesday.

The service will be held in Adelaide's Saint Peter's Cathedral on the evening of March 25, Bradman's son, John, said.

While some guests will be invited to the service inside the cathedral, fans will be able to gather at the Adelaide Oval to watch proceedings on a large television screen.

The service will also be broadcast live on national television with Australia's head of state, Governor-General Sir William Deane, and a former cricket captain, Richie Benaud, among the scheduled speakers.

"From the oval in the evening, the cathedral looks absolutely beautiful and there will be a large screen which will enable people to see the proceedings," John Bradman told reporters.

He also thanked the media for respecting his family's privacy at the time of Sir Donald's death at his Adelaide home on Sunday. He said,” I think the media were terrific and since he died the coverage has been extraordinary."
