Australian cricket legend’s funeral to be held on Thursday

Adelaide, Australia, Feb 28: The funeral of Australian cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman, who died on Sunday aged 92, will be held in Adelaide on Thursday.

Bradman's son John told a news conference on Wednesday that his father would be cremated at a private service at Centennial Park after a procession from the Bradman family home in Kensington Park.

He said his father had requested a private service but a memorial, open to the public, would be held on Sunday March 25 at St Peter's Cathedral and broadcast live across Australia.

Former Australian captain Richie Benaud and Australian governor-general Sir William Deane would be among the speakers.

"From the Oval in the evening, the cathedral looks absolutely beautiful," John Bradman said. "And there will be a large screen which will enable people to see the proceedings."
