Yuvraj Singh batted like a lion!
The young gun oozes out talent

The 18-year-old Yuvraj Singh lived upto the hype created by media when he made a splendid 84 runs off just 80 balls. When he came into the crease, Indians were in trouble at 92 for 3. It was enough to intimidate anyone, particularly to a youngster, who was playing his 2nd match.

But, Yuvraj was very positive from the beginning and confidence was oozing out from his body. He started flamboyantly when he struck two amazing boundaries in 20th over. Along with Vinod kambli, Yuvraj Singh Kept the momentum of scoring rate.

It may have been revealing for those who may not have been following the domestic cricket but, for those who follow, it was only the confirmation of his enormous potential. Few days ago, in an article, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that if Yuvraj delivers for India, it would be the fulfillment of his father’s desire to become a successful cricketer. Hopefully, the young man must have delighted Sunil with his cavalier approach and superb performance.

Yuvraj is a very wristy player and whenever he is playing on the leg-side, his style were very much the reminiscent of Saeed Anwar’s.

If India was able to reach a competitive total of 265, then most of the credit should be given to the energetic young man.

What was striking to see - his care-free stroke-play. It never seemed that he was playing his only second one dayer. Even when boundaries were not easy to come, he was never short of singles and twos.

Yuvraj’s foot-work was lightning. In 31st over when he lofted over the mid-on, seeing that mid-on fielder was inside the circle, gave that impression that he also have a good cricketing brain. Yuvraj got his fifty with a marvelous straight-drive in just 47 balls. It was indeed enthralling to see that young man was unfazed by the big names of international cricket and played some wonderful shots all over the park. But, the most fascinating shot was a beautiful cover-drive off Gilespie’s over during the 36th over of Indian innings.

In last 10 overs, when India kept losing wickets at regular intervals and he was not getting enough strike, he seemed a bit frustrated. And it was his frustration and desperation that denied him a well-deserving hundred when he tried to play an ambitious shot, only to be caught and bowled by Shane Lee.

Anyway, he has made a fantastic impression in his very first innings. He is also a more than useful left-armer, apart from being an excellent fielder. Yuvraj, who was the Man of the series during the under-19the World Cup, has shown the glimpses of his dormant potential. He may be the find of the ICC-Knockout tour.
