Saurav Ganguly better known as
Dada by his
teammates is one of the finest batsman we have in the Indian team. He is also known as
Bengal Tiger for
his ever-increasing hunger for runs.
Since his debut in 1991, he has come a long way
and now, announced as the captain of the Indian team for the ODIs with South Africa.
It was a century at Lords in 1995 that Saurav signaled his arrival to the world and
the Indian cricketing fraternity. As per his own words, "when they picked me for the tests at Lords, I knew it would make or break
my career. I just went there to bat with the hope of doing my best and by Gods
grace, I made it." Since then this Indian tiger
has never looked back. The best part of his game is that he plays his natural game. You
send him at any number (1, 3, 6 or any ) and he will perform. Another reason for his good
performance is that he loves his country and enjoys to score runs for it. He is good, not
only with the bat but also with the ball, and he proved that in the Toronto series. But he
doesnt like being called an all-rounder and prefers to be called as a "batsman who can bowl a bit." Saurav
has proved to be an effective medium pacer and hence, improved his bowling attack from the
Indian side. As per him, "when I ball, I try to
stick on to the basics"
Other than cricket, he loves football. Football
being his first love, he played for his school football team for four years. But since
there were not many opportunities in football, he shifted to cricket. This shift of game
was because of his father, who made him join a cricket coaching club. His father Mr.
Chandi Ganguly had also played for the state. As per Saurav, Mr. Debu Mitra (former Bengal
Ranji player) taught him the finer points of the game.
Saurav is a hot property in the add world too. He has endorsed
a large variety of products, from Colas to toothpastes. He loves his city, Calcutta,
especially during the Durga pooja festival. He also loves being with his wife Dona and
parents when he is not playing. And know, we will tell you one of his
secrets
.
The
first thing Saurav does after he checks into a hotel room
is to place the portrait of goddess Kali and the picture
of his wife Dona on his bed side table.
For
this Bengal Tiger there is nothing more relaxing than
watching Dona perform a dance routine.
